Ukraine’s President Decorates Representatives of All Churches with State Awards

31.07.2008, [17:28] // Church-state relations // -Kyiv- For the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of the Kyivan Rus, the head of the Ukrainian state decorated ministers and hierarchs of all Churches of Ukraine with awards. RISU's Ukrainian-language site posted the news on 30 July 2008.

The president awarded the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 1st Degree to the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), Metropolitan Volodymyr, and the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate, Patriarch Filaret, "for their outstanding personal contribution to the establishment of spirituality, humanism and charity, and years of fruitful church activity." The head of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), Metropolitan Mefodii, was decorated with the order of Yaroslav the Wise of the 3rd Degree.

The Order of Yaroslav the Wise of the 3rd degree was previously awarded by the president to the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Patriarch Lubomyr.

During this year's celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kyivan Rus, the president also decorated Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople with the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 1st Degree.

By the president's decree "On conferral of state awards of Ukraine" (№ 665/2008) of 23 July 2008, the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th Degree is awarded for the "important personal contribution to the development of spirituality in Ukraine, and for years of fruitful Church activity" to: the head of the Ukrainian Eparchy of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church, Archbishop Hryhoris (Buniatian); President of the Synod of the German Evangelical-Lutheran Church, Andrii Hamburh; Bishop Viacheslav Horpynchuk of the Ukrainian Lutheran Church; President of the Ukrainian Bible Society, Hryhorii Komendant; President of the Ukrainian Union Conference of the Church of the Seventh Day's Adventists, Volodymyr Krupskyi; President of the All-Ukrainian Union of Associations of Evangelical Christians Baptists, Viacheslav Nesteruk; Senior Bishop of the Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church, Leonid Padun; Bishop of the Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith, Mykhailo Panochko; Senior Presbyter of the Union of free Churches of Evangelical Faith of Ukraine, Vasyl Raichynets; Deputy Head of the Conference of the Roman Catholic Bishops of Ukraine, Bishop Markiian Trofymiak; and the Head of the Consistory of the Trans-Carpathian Reformist Church, Bishop Shandor Zan-Fabian.

By the Decree 660/2008 of 22 July 2008, the president decorated ministers of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church with awards. The president awarded the order "For merits" of the 2nd Degree to the Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Fr. Dr. Borys Gudziak, and to the dean of the Kyivan Deanery of the Kyiv Archeparchy of UGCC, Ihor Onyshkevych.

President Yushchenko awarded the order "For Merits" of the 3rd Degree to the following representatives of UGCC: Protopresbyter of Lutsk, Fr. Roman Behei; the parish priest of the Church of Ascension of Our Lord, Jesus Christ in Lviv, Fr. Oleksii Vaskiv; the director of the charitable foundation Karitas-Sokal of Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy of UGCC, Yaroslav Kashchuk; Chancellor of Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy of UGCC, Volodymyr Kotkevych; Head of the UGCC bureau for relations with state authorities in Kyiv, Roman Nebozhuk; Chancellor of the Kyivan Archeparchy, Serhii Prudko; Synkellos of Sokal-Zhovkva Eparchy of UGCC, Mykhailo Tkachiv; parish priest of the Greek Catholic parish in Berdychiv, Ivan Tsykhuliak and the parish priest of the Church of St. Volodymyr and Olha in Lviv, Bohdan Chaban.

The President decorated representatives of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Andrii (Abramchuk) of Halych and Metropolitan Roman (Balashchuk) of Vinnytsia and Bratslav with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th degree. Victor Yushchenko awarded the Order "For Merits" of the 3rd Degree to the following UAOC representatives: Hegumen Nazarii, Bishop Mykhailo of Zhytomyr, Fr. Pavlo Bosniak, Archbishop of Kaffa and Hotskyi Petro, Mitred Artchpriest Pavlo (Horuiko), Mitred Archpriest Anatolii (Zaliznytskyi), Mitred Archpriest Mykola (Zorennyi), Fr. Ivan (Kostyshak), Protopresbyter Ihor (Kurpita), Mitred Archpriest Petro (Kuchmynda), Fr. Heorhii (Kushniriuk), Archbishop Makarii of Lviv, Protodeacon Serhii (Moskalchuk), Mitred Archpriest Bohdan (Romaniuk), Mitred Archpriest Volodymyr (Sadovskyi), Mitred Archpriest, Volodymyr (Selen), Mitred Archpriest, Bohdan (Skaskiv), Mitred Archpriest, Mykola (Fatych), worker of the Patriarchate, Natalia Shevchuk, Mitred Archpriest, Stepan (Yaremchyk).

By the Decree 663/2008 of 22 July, the president of Ukraine awarded representatives of UOC-MP. For their outstanding personal contribution to the development of spirituality in Ukraine, and for years of fruitful Church activity, Victor Yushchenko awarded the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 3rd Degree to Metropolitan Nykodym of Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv; the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th Degree to Metropolitan Ioannykii of Luhansk and Alchevsk; the Order "For Merits" of the 2nd Degree to Archbishop Sofronii of Cherkasy and Kaniv and Archbishop Mytrofan of Bila Tserkva and Bohuslav. The order "For Merits" of the 3rd Degree was awarded to the following representatives of UOC-MP: Archpriest Fedor Abramov, Bishop Nykodym of Volodymyr Volynskyi and Kovel, Archimandrite Damian, Archpriest Dmytro (Denysenko), Archpriest Anatolii (Natovskyi), Archimandrite Prokhor, Bishop Oleksandr (Mamasuiev) of Mukachiv and Uzhhorod, Archimandrite Oleksandr, Archbishop Fylyp of Poltava and Myrhorod, Bishop Antonii (Pakanych) of Boryspil, Bishop Amvrosii (Polikopa), Archimandrite Nikolai, Archpriest Vasylii (Rusinku), Archbishop Heorhii (Sviriakin), Archpriest Ivan (Solodchuk), Archbishop Pityrym (Starynskyi) of Mykolayiv and Voznesensk, Archbishop Vissarion (Stretovych) of Ovruch and Korosten, Archpriest Serhii (Tesoiuk), Archpriest Nykanor (Shymka), Bishop Ilarii (Shyshkovskyi) of Sumy and Okhtyrka.

The President awarded the order of Pricess Olha of the 3rd Degree to Hegumeness Stefana (Bandura) and Hegumeness Antonia (Filkina).

By the presidential Decree 664/2008 "On conferral of state awards of Ukraine to representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate," the order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th Degree is awarded to Metropolitan Andrii (Horak) of Lviv and Sokal and Metropolitan Danylo (Kovalchuk) of Chernivtsi and Kitsman. The order "For Merits" is awarded to Archbishop Ioasaf (Vasylkiv) of Ivano-Frankivsk and Halych, Archpriest Petro (Zinych), Bishop Yevstratii (Zoria) of Vasylkivskyi, Archbishop Dymytrii (Rudiuk) of Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, Archpriest Valerii (Semantsa), Metropolitan Adrian (Staryna) of Dnipropetrovsk and Kryvyi Rih and Professor Dmytro Stepovyk of the Kyivan Spiritual Academy.

The order "For Merits" of the 3rd Degree is awarded to Archpriest Bohdan (Boiko), Bishop Fedor (Bubniuk) of Poltava and Kremenchuh, Bishop Serhii (Horobtsov) of Sloviansk, a member of the Patriarchal Council, Anatolii (Dymchuk), Archimandrite Epifanii (Dumenko), Archbishop Damian (Zamaraiev) of Kherson and Tavria, a worker of the Patriarchate, Hanna Zimina, Bishop Mykhail (Zinkevych) of Lutsk and Volyn', Archbishop Iziaslav (Karha) of Zhytomyr and Ovruch, Churchwarden of St. Volodymyr's Cathedral of Kyiv, Mykhailo Koliadka, Bishop Klyment (Kushch) of Simferopol and Crimea, Archbishop Volodymyr (Ladyka) of Mykolaiiv and Bohoiavlensk, worker of the Patriarchate, Olha Liakina, Bishop yakiv (Makarchyk) of Odesa and Baltsk, Archpriest Oleh (Malaniak), Archpriest Mykhailo (Marusiak), Archimandrite Oleksii (Menzatiuk), Archpriest Pavlo (Osnovenko), Archpriest Yaroslav (Oshchudliak), worker of the Patriarchate, Oleksandra Petrenko, Bishop Nestor (Pysyk) of Ternopil and Buchach, Bishop Ilarion (Protsyk) of Chernihiv and Nizhyn, Archpriest Yaroslav (Romanchyk), Archpriest Dymytrii (Sadoviak), Archpriest Mykola (Salabai), Bishop Mefodii (Sribniak) of Sumy and Okhtyrka, Archpriest Mykhail (Slyvchuk), Archpriest Yaroslav (Romanchyk); Bishop Onufrii (Khavruk) of Vinnytsia and Bratslav, Archpriest Mykola (Khrapach), Bishop Ioan (Yaremenko) of Cherkasy and Chyhyryn.

Hegumeness Varvara (Boronina) was decorated with the Order of Princess Olha of the 3rd degree.
