Ternopil Regional Council Calls President to Grant Repressed Status to UGCC

TERNOPIL-The Ternopil regional council called the president of Ukraine to grant the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) the status of a repressed church. The deputies passed the respective address to the president on 19 June, 2009.

The deputies asked Viktor Yushchenko to initiate on the national level the process of establishing historic justice regarding UGCC, granting it the status of a repressed church and full rehabilitation, in particular, by granting benefits in accordance with Ukrainian law.

RISU information: UGCC's status of a "repressed church" was previously recognized by the Lviv regional and city councils (4 December, 23 December, 2008), Ivano-Frankivsk regional and city councils (27 February and 23 March, 2009) and Ternopil city council (4 June, 2009).
