Anti-Catholic action on Ukrainian “1+1” TV-channel

On August 13, 2009 in the news on Ukrainian "1+1" TV-channel (one of the biggest TV-channels in Ukraine),  Ukrainian journalists proved not for the first time already that they more often act as worthy heirs of the Communists party of the Soviet Republic ideology and methods than of unbiased journalism.

In the news, there was a story about strike, conducted by members of the religious sect of Antonin Dognal, which is known in Western Ukraine as ‘Pidhirtsi fathers'. The protestors had been standing out against so called ‘religious persecution' from authorities which don't want to register them under the name of Greek-Catholics.

The journalist, who probably is an author of these ‘news', started from the fact that 9 bishops detached from the Synod of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. This is not true, since those so called bishops had never been ordained for this status. They are priests who were punished with great excommunication for offence of faith, i.e. they were excluded from the Catholic Church. Thus, by false covering of this topic, a journalist creates an impression that a kind of split is happening in the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. Later on, he tells about dozens of dioceses of this sect, which is also not true. By the most optimistic assessment, there are less than 1000 members of this sect.

The other wangle made by the journalist was accusation of the law enforcements in ‘abduction' of a girl from the monastery. Video, which sect members placed in the network, even though it is obviously arranged, clearly shows that law enforcement representatives didn't take part in this hysteria.

Slanders, addressed to the leadership of UGCC, have no ground.

Members of this sect have been given practically all the news broadcasting time, while representatives of UGCC were given not more than a minute.

The journalist also ‘didn't notice' the fact that leaders of this sect are citizens of foreign states, Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as the fact that a strike was made mostly out of this sect clergy.

The most interesting fact is that ecstatic practices and trances at worships of this sect have been left out of "1+1" journalist's attention.

Obviously, these ‘news' are only one of many attacks on Christian Churches in Ukraine with the purpose to discredit Christianity.

The sect of Dognal is a pseudo-Christian religious group, which under name of Greek-Catholic Church decoys people to its ranks. The sect does some cabalistic practices, falls into idolatry with the Virgin Mary, practices prediction with the help of the Bible, rosary and lots. The sect is also known for its unsubstantiated slander to UGCC and the Catholic Church as a whole. Sectarians also acutely attack Protestant denominations. The sect has patronage of certain political and business authority in Ukraine.
