Busy Schedule for Pope in Months Ahead

(20 Apr 10 -RV) Following are highlights of the activities and trips due to be undertaken by Pope Benedict XVI between the months of May and September.

Pope Benedict will journey to Turin Italy on Sunday May 2nd , for the exposition of the Holy Shroud. One week later he leaves on an Apostolic trip to Portugal, from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14. On Sunday 23: he will preside over celebrations for the Solemnity of Pentecost: Mass at 10 a.m. in the Vatican Basilica.

In June , he will mark the Solemnity of Corpus Christi with Mass on Thursday June 3 at 7.00 p.m. in the basilica of St. John Lateran, and the traditional procession to the basilica of St. Mary Major and Eucharistic blessing.

From Friday 4 to Sunday 6:the Holy Father will make an Apostolic trip to Cyprus. On Thursday Pope Benedict will hold a Prayer vigil with priests at 6 p.m. in St. Peter's Square marking the closing of the Year for Priests.

On Friday 11th , the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, he will preside over mass at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Square, for the close of the Year for Priests.

On Sunday 20 at 9 .30 a.m. in the Vatican Basilica, he will preside over priestly ordination of deacons from the diocese of Rome. While on Monday 28: he will mark the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul Apostles, with First Vespers, at 6 p.m. in the Basilica of St. Paul's Outside-the-Walls.

On Tuesday 29 the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul Apostles. He will preside over mass at 9.30 a.m. in St. Peter's Basilica and imposition of the pallium on new metropolitan archbishops.

In July the Holy Father will make a pastoral visit to Sulmona, Italy, for the eighth centenary of the birth of Pope St. Celestine V.

In August on Sunday 15 the Solemnity of the Assumption, Pope Benedict will celebrate Mass at 8 a.m. in the parish church of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castelgandolfo.

In September, the Holy Father will make two pastoral trips, one in Italy to Carpineto Romano, for the second centenary of the birth of Pope Leo XIII. The second, from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19, Pope Benedict XVI will make his first Apostolic trip to the United Kingdom.
