Holy Father Heads to Castel Gandolfo

VATICAN CITY, JULY 2, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI will set out next week for the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, about 30 kilometers (18 miles) south of Rome.
The Vatican press office announced today that all private and special audiences will be suspended during the summer, in addition to the Wednesday general audiences on July 14, 21 and 28. General audiences will resume again Aug. 4.
On Sundays and solemnities over the summer, the 83-year-old Pope will pray the Angelus from the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo.
Benedict XVI has several events scheduled during his stay in Castel Gandolfo. On Aug. 15, at 8 a.m., the Holy Father will preside at a Mass for the solemnity of the Assumption, celebrated at the parish church of St. Thomas of Villanova in Castel Gandolfo.
On Sept. 5, the Holy Father will visit Carpineto Romano, Italy, for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Pope Leo XIII.
The Pontiff will also prepare his 17th international apostolic trip, which will take him to the United Kingdom, from Sept. 16-19.
