The Head of the UGCC was awarded with the Order of the Eternal Fire in Gold

On June 22, 2008, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination and his 75th birthday, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, His Beatitude Lubomyr, a member of Plast [the Ukrainian scouts], a brother of the assembly Detachment of the Red Cranberry, was solemnly handed the greatest Plast award, the Order of the Eternal Fire in Gold.

Present at the ceremony were representative of the authorities, Plast leaders of all levels, and also Plast members from Ukraine, the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Germany and Poland. The event took place near the Patriarchal Cathedral of the UGCC in Kyiv, reports the Plast portal: www.plast.org.ua.

The celebration began with a Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God, which was served by His Beatitude Lubomyr. Plast members present for the celebration took part in the Liturgy. Then began the ceremony of bestowing the order. After the proclamation of the decision about awarding the Head of the UGCC, chief Plast member Lubomyr Romankiv awarded the order. Then with a word of greeting from the president of Ukraine, Mr. Oleksandr Bistrushkin, head of the Main Service on Humanitarian Policy and on questions of maintenance of national cultural acquisition of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine, spoke. The Head of the UGCC had the last word. He expressed his thanks for the award and spoke of the importance of Plast in his life.

The order of the Eternal Fire in Gold is the first award which the chief Plast member gives to senior members for prominent or long public or scholarly activity outside of Plast, in accord with Plast's ideology.
