Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine Supports Initiative to Grant Religious Organizations Right to Found Educational Ins

01.07.2008 - Kyiv-On 26 June 2008, a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine was held to discuss the recognition of religious organizations as subjects of the law when founding educational institutions. The question, issued from a meeting of Yulia Tymoshenko with the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations of 11 April 2008, was included in the agenda of the board meeting following the government's instruction. Representatives of the Secretariat of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) were invited to participate in the discussion.
As a result of the meeting, the members of the board and representatives of AUCCRO and the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Ivan Vakarchuk proposed to support the proposal to recognize religious organizations as subjects of law with the right of founding educational institutions. The mentioned proposal was approved by the members of the Ministry's Board. It was also proposed to hold a special meeting for the leadership of the ministry with representatives of Churches and religious organizations in order to conduct additional consultations to identify concrete ways of implementing the decision.
