Representatives of Ukrainian city council vandalized Christian relics

25-08-2008

On an order of the city council the stela with the Ten Commandments was vandalized in the Ukrainian city of Cherkassy, - reports Christian Telegraph.

The Ten Commandments stela was put up as part of an action to approve moral values as the cornerstone of the national idea. At the beginning of the action vice city mayor gave an order to put the Ten Commandments down. Nevertheless the action was continued. Petr Pohnatuk, the organizer of the action, said: "We continued the action, but at the end of the day, after dark, the police came and started vandalizing the Ten Commandments stela. One of them introduced himself as a city council lawyer but we could see that he was drunk".

The citizens of Cherkassy wrote an open letter to the President of Ukraine Victor Yuschenko, asking him to take notice of such a horrible vandalizing of Christian relics.

"Today we live at the time when we can very easy loose the whole Evangelical revival in Ukraine", - say Ukrainian Christian leaders. "So we ask all believers and non-believers who appreciate Christian values to add their voices to the protest against such a godless and immoral administration of the city of Cherkassy."
