Assembly of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Religious Ends

01.09.2008 - Lviv- The third session of the sobor (assembly) of religious of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Transfiguration in the Lord, on the theme "Ministry and the State of Being Sent," was held from 19 to 23 August 2008 on the premises of Holy Spirit Seminary in western Ukrainian Lviv.

The sobor started in 2003 and since then has had three conferences and three sessions. This session had 64 delegates from all the religious communities and 40 invited guests. Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar), head of the UGCC, was also present at the sobor.

Reflecting on the end of the sobor, Fr. Venedykt (Aleksiichuk), ihumen (superior) of Holy Dormition Lavra (major monastery) in Univ, Lviv Region, and head of the sobor's secretariat, said: "For the first time in the history of our monastic communities we had the opportunity to gather together in such great numbers and truly to see not only the great mosaic of our monasteries, orders, and congregations, but to feel what unites us as persons consecrated to God."

Among the propositions heard during the sobor, more than once the thought of creating a monastic school, an Institute of Consecrated Life at the Ukrainian Catholic University, was expressed.
