Odesa Region Receives Grant for Restoration of Church

24.06.2008 - Odesa-The Department of Protection of Objects of the Cultural Heritage of the Odesa Regional State Administration received a grant from the Fund of Anastasios Leventis (Cyprus) for the implementation of a project of restoration of an architectural monument of national significance, the (Greek) Church of John the Baptist. The church, built in the 13th-17th centuries, is located in the town of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. The news.ukrinform.ua received this information from an official source of the Odesa Regional State Administration.
During a visit to Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, the director of the fund Professor Vassos Karageorgis greatly appreciated the work done by the regional state administration to preserve and restore the Church buildings. He also expressed the readiness of the Fund to allocate additional funds for the completion of the restoration work this year, provided that part of the necessary funds is allocated from the regional budget.
The fund's director stressed that the cooperation of the executive authorities with international funds and charitable organizations on the preservation and popularization of cultural heritage contributes to the positive image of the Odesa region and Ukraine.
