03-07-2008

02.07.2008 - Kharkiv-The Status Quo information agency was told by a member of the local organization of the Union of Ukrainian Youth, Roman Cheremskyi, that a deputy of the Kharkiv Regional Council (of the faction of the Communist Party of Ukraine), Pavlo Tishchenko, organized the demolition of the memorial plate commemorating Patriarch Josef Slipyj of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on 23 June. According to him, "P. Tishchenko is expected to pay a small fine of 50-70 UAH, and the case itself is considered by the Leninskyi District police department."

According to R. Cheremskyi, on 30 June, Archbishop Ihor (Isichenko) of Kharkiv and Poltava of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church consecrated a new plate, which is a replica of the old one, and said a sermon. Since it was impossible to hang the plate because of the differences in fastening, the installation was postponed until 1 July.
