Ukraine Security Service Starts “Hot Line” to Prevent Problems during Baptism Celebration

Kyiv - The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has asked the public to report possible illegal and provocative acts aimed at starting conflicts on a religious basis and violating constitutional rights during the celebration in Kyiv of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan-Rus. Consequently, it renewed the work of a hot line, reported interfax-religion.ru on 21 July 2008.

The hot line will work 24 hours a day before and during the celebrations (25 to 28 July) at the SSU's main administration in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region, tel. 226-32-32; at the SSU's main administration, tel. 256-99-46; e-mail: dovira1020@ukr.net.

Previously the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not rule out the possibility that during the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan-Rus in places where Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexis II is present certain problems with civil order could arise.
