Toowoomba's Holy Name Parish priest Father Tom Keegan will celebrate Mass with Pope Benedict XVI in St Peter's Basilica in Rome on the Feast of the Epiphany this week.

Fr Keegan will be part of a group of up to 100 priests from across Australia and the United States of America who will travel to Rome this week for a week-long convention of the Australian Confraternity of Catholic Clergy (ACCC) and its counterpart in the USA, the Toowoomba Chronicle reports.

"We normally have a week's convention in a capital city in Australia, but we decided to have the convention ... in Rome so we could meet up with the American branch of the ACCC," Fr Keegan explained.

"We will be having Mass in four major basilicas in Rome - St John Lateran, St Mary Major, the Basilica of St Paul's Outside the Walls, and St Peter's Basilica where we will celebrate Mass with the Pope on the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6).

"There are a few priests from Queensland going but I'm the only one from Toowoomba."

Fr Keegan has met all popes since Pope Pius XII except for Pope John Paul I whose reign only lasted 33 days in 1978. Fr Keegan has previously met Cardinal Ratzinger in Rome.
